The Balanced Offset

This workout is part of the March 2025 Vocal Cord Balance Series, that includes: The Balanced Onset (Mar. 3), The Balanced Offset (Mar. 10), and Focused Singing (Vocal Cord Closure) (Mar. 24). Save 20% by registering for the full series!

Do you find it difficult to end the final note of a phrase gracefully? Especially if it’s a high note? It’s not easy! Many singers struggle to maintain their intonation and tone quality as they approach a “cut off”, and either end too abruptly or fade away. How can we conclude these final sounds with good coordination?

This 45-minute vocal workout—delivered live, via Zoom—will provide an introduction to the balanced offset (sometimes called the “cut off”). Vocal exercises will teach you about:

  • The three types of vocal offset (hard, soft, and balanced)

  • What should happen at the level of the lower body and the vocal folds during offset

  • How to avoid common offset faults, like sagging pitch and unstable vibrato

  • How to manage final consonants

Remember, practice makes permanent. To help train your balanced offset, we invite you to repeat this workout often. Every Offset workout is different, while focusing on the same set of fundamental skills.
