Co-Vo For Coloraturas

During our May 15 workout, “The Lost Art of the Vocalise”, we learned three short vocalises from the 19th C., the “Golden Age of Bel Canto”. These charming pieces—by Marchesi, Delle Sedie, and Panofka—focused on 1) repeated notes, 2) staccati, and 3) challenging triplets patterns, and were designed to be bridges between vocalizing and repertoire.

These 45-minute vocal workouts—delivered live, via Zoom—will guide experienced singers of all genders through a challenging routine of advanced vocal agility skills. Vocal exercises will include figures and patterns common in both Baroque and bel canto coloratura repertoire:

  • A plethora of scales (including chromatic and minor)

  • Patterns and divisions (including triplets, and groupings of four, six, and eight notes)

  • Staccati

  • Arpeggi

  • Trills

Remember, practice makes permanent. To continue advancing your vocal agility skills, we invite you to repeat this workout often. Every Coloratura workout is different, while focusing on the same set of fundamental skills.
