Next-Level Vocal Fitness
What does it mean to have a voice that is “in shape”? What are the attributes of vocal fitness and how do we measure them? How do we get our voices “in shape”, and keep them that way? And if we’re already “in shape”, how can we take our vocal fitness to the next level?
During this seven-week intensive experience, you will answer all these questions, and:
Assess your current vocal fitness in eight important domains
Develop a customized fitness plan that will take you to the next level of your vocal fitness—one that is tailored to your singing goals, available time, and lifestyle
Get you fired up about practicing!
Although singers are artists, first and foremost, they are also small muscle athletes. So the elements of improved vocal fitness will we work on during this series have parallels to attributes of physical fitness:
Alignment (body posture)
Respiratory endurance (breath support)
Power (resonance and vocal dynamics)
Flexibility (range and registration shifts)
Balance (sustaining)
Accuracy (intonation, articulation)
Agility (speed)
Stamina (preventing vocal fatigue)
Through both presentation and discussion, we will answer questions such as:
How often should I practice, and for how long? We will learn how to establish a practice habit that works for your musical goals and your schedule.
What should my vocalizing include? We will craft several variations of an ideal practice routine, specifying the types of exercises and level of challenge that will benefit you.
What are common barriers to regular practice, and how can I overcome them?
How can my repertoire practice support my vocal fitness? We will experience creative repertoire practice strategies that go far beyond the typical “start-at-the-beginning and sing-it-straight-through” approach!
How can I set meaningful goals for my vocal fitness, and for my practice time?
How can I find more joy in my private practice time? What will make me want to practice? Love to practice?
