High Notes: A Singer’s Guide
During my first voice lesson with a new student, I always ask, “What are your biggest technical questions for me about your voice?” And the number one answer—regardless of voice category—is always: “How can I improve my high notes?”
For many singers, high notes are a source of frustration, apprehension, and even discomfort. How can high notes be sung with confidence and technical balance?
High Notes: A Singer’s Guide is a 2-hour seminar and vocal exercise routine—delivered live, via Zoom—that will explore how high notes can be produced comfortably, efficiently, and freely.
You will learn:
Ten body movement and monitoring tools that can help you achieve appropriate body support and breath pressure during high notes
The single-most important vocal exercise you can perform to help you learn how to drop “vocal weight” as you ascend in pitch
A five-point checklist for optimizing your resonator during high notes (e.g., facial position, jaw, tongue, palate)
A four-step process for learning how to pronounce with comfort while singing in high tessitura
The seven most common warning signs that your high notes are out of balance…even if they sound good.
The seminar includes:
90 minutes of interactive presentation by Dr. Julia Nielsen, including opportunities for discussion among participants
30 minutes of singing vocal exercises related to optimizing high notes technique (participants remain muted)
Ample time for Q&A
25+-page seminar booklet, delivered electronically, including handouts and the notated vocal exercises
