Breath Support: A Singer’s Guide
Breath support: it’s that thing that every singer thinks they probably need to do more of, but couldn’t tell you exactly how. Should you “push down and out”? Should you “pull up and in”? Should you open your ribs and “hold” them open? Or will the breath “just take care of itself”?
Breath Support: A Singer’s Guide is a 2-hour seminar and accompanying vocal exercise routine—delivered live, via Zoom—designed to help you sift through a lifetime’s worth of often conflicting advice regarding breath support.
You will learn:
A practical, concise definition of breath support / appoggio
Five myths about breath support, and the kernel of truth each contains
The lower body musculature related to breathing and support, and common support sensations in various muscle groups
A dozen vocal exercises to help develop the coordination necessary for breath support
The seminar includes:
90 minutes of interactive presentation by Dr. Julia Nielsen, including opportunities for discussion among participants
40 minutes of singing vocal exercises related to understanding and improving breath support (participants remain muted)
Ample time for Q&A
Extensive seminar materials, delivered electronically, including handouts and the notated vocal exercises
