Dropping Vocal Weight

Have you ever felt that your voice was “too heavy”, but not known how to fix it? Has anyone ever told you that you should “lighten up” your singing, but not told you how? Have you ever wondered: What is vocal weight, anyway?

This 45-minute vocal workout—delivered live, via Zoom—will clearly define the concept of vocal weight and how singers can sing with a less “weighted” production. Vocal exercises will explore:

  • The roles of breath pressure, vocal registration, and tongue pressure in creating and releasing vocal weight

  • How to “thin out” the vocal cords in all ranges of the voice

  • How to sing “loud and light” rather than “loud and heavy”

Remember, practice makes permanent. To improve your understanding of vocal weight and your ability to adjust it as needed, we invite you to repeat this workout often. Every Dropping Vocal Weight workout is different, while focusing on the same set of fundamental skills.
