Co-Vo Fundamentals > Singing in a Mask

Singing in a Mask

For many singers today, wearing a mask while singing in public or indoors is a necessary safety measure and a new part of the singer’s life. This 45-minute vocal workout—delivered live, via Zoom—will explore the most common vocal challenges caused by singing in a mask, and how these can be mitigated, including:

  • Changes to breathing coordination

  • Restrictions of facial movement

  • Effects on volume, resonance, and diction

  • Psychological and emotional responses

Please note: This session will not address issues of medical safety, and will not recommend or review particular masks. Singers are invited to attend this session wearing whatever mask they typically employ during their rehearsals and/or performances.
