Quiet Singing
When you see pp marked in your vocal score (pianissimo), are you filled with dread? Do you find that singing quietly is less comfortable than singing fully? Do you struggle to sing quietly at all? You are not alone!
Singing quietly—with healthy vocal technique—is one of the most difficult technical skills a singer can master. Unfortunately, it is also a skill that singers are rarely taught explicitly. This 45-minute vocal workout—delivered live, via Zoom—will explore how to sing quietly in a healthy, sustainable way. Vocal exercises will focus on:
The crucial connections between breath pressure, vocal registration, and dynamic level
Avoiding the top three unhelpful things singers tend to do when asked to sing more quietly
Helping singers remain more comfortable while singing quietly in the high range (and why this is so difficult)
Remember, practice makes permanent. To solidify your ease and coordination when singing quietly, we invite you to repeat this workout often. Every Quiet Singing workout is different, while focusing on the same set of fundamental skills.
