Preventing Vocal Fatigue
During a long rehearsal or practice session, does your voice sometimes get rough, raspy, hoarse, or dry? Do high notes—or low notes—become more difficult to produce? Or maybe even go away? Does it feel like you have to work harder and harder, but for results that get worse and worse? Afterwards, is your speaking voice a little off somehow? If you answered yes to any of these questions, you may have experienced vocal fatigue!
This 45-minute vocal workout—delivered live, via Zoom—will explore the most common causes of vocal fatigue, and guide you through the stretches, mindfulness exercises, and technical adjustments that can keep you vocally fresh, even during extended periods of singing. You will learn about:
Technical factors that contribute to vocal fatigue, including breath pressure, vocal weight, alignment faults, and physical tensions
The difference between being vocally “tired” and vocally “tight”
Body scanning procedures and vocal fold swelling tests
Remember, practice makes permanent. To help you prevent vocal fatigue, we invite you to repeat this workout often. Every Preventing Vocal Fatigue workout is different, while focusing on the same set of fundamental skills.
