CICS (Intervals, Chords & Scales) and CORE (Rhythm Exercises)
Did you enjoy Julia’s May CICS (“Kicks”) Theme (Co-Vo Intervals, Chords, and Scales) during our general workouts? Are you enjoying CORE month in August (Co-Vo Rhythm Exercises)? While she thought she’d be serving up a dose of ear training medicine, she learned that singers actually crave ear training challenges!
This 45-minute vocal workout—delivered live, via Zoom—is designed for singers who want to tackle more advanced ear training and rhythm exercises. While there is no pre-requisite, some familiarity with diatonic intervals (especially whole vs. half steps), basic scales and chords, and rhythm notation will be a plus. You will be challenged to identify, construct, and sing:
The four types of triads, and four types of seventh chords
Rhythm patterns including quarter, eighth, and sixteenth notes
The three types of minor scales
Whole vs. half step patterns
Solfege, including chromatic solfege
Intervals within an octave
Remember, practice makes permanent. To improve your ability to sing chords, intervals, scales, and rhythm patterns, we invite you to repeat this workout often. Every CICS and CORE workout is different, while focusing on the same set of fundamental skills.
