Mindful Singing

What do you pay attention to when you sing? The choices are seemingly endless—your vocal technique, your phrasing, your diction, your character…that note you just sang that didn’t feel comfortable, what you are going to have for dinner later, why your piano is so dusty… But no matter what you choose to pay attention to, how you pay attention is crucial.

This 45-minute vocal workout—delivered live, via Zoom—will focus on building our ability as singers to focus mindfully on a chosen aspect of our singing experience, in order to notice current coordination, and request specific changes if any are needed. Vocal exercises will focus on:

  • Mindfulness of body alignment

  • Mindfulness of breath flow

  • Mindfulness of tensions and discomfort

  • Mindfulness of sensations of resonance, and qualities of vocal sound

Remember, practice makes permanent. To help train your ability to sing mindfully, we invite you to repeat this workout often. Every Mindful Singing workout is different, while focusing on the same set of fundamental skills.
