Messiah-gility!

Is there a Handel's Messiah in your future this winter? Are the fast choruses feeling a little rusty? Or perhaps, you’ve always been challenged to sing the agile bits with speed and clarity…

Get them in shape with Messiah-giltiy!

During Fall 2024, a series of three Messiah-based workouts will focus on melismatic (i.e., agile) passages from four major Allegro choruses of Handel’s famous masterwork (see below). During these 45-minute vocal workouts—delivered live, via Zoom—you will learn:

• Agility exercises devoted to the specific agility patterns that are called for in these choruses

• The iconic recurring melodic themes from each chorus

• How to cleanly and accurately articulate these passages (without using H’s)

• How to increase the speed at which you can sing these passages

• How to practice melismatic (i.e., agility) passages (hint: there’s more to it than just starting at the beginning and running it through to the end!)

Musical material will be excerpted from the following choruses:

1. “And he shall purify”

2. “For unto us a Child is born”

3. “His yoke is easy”

4. “All we like sheep”

All registrants will receive:

• A PDF document containing the vocal exercises from each workout

• Unlimited video access to each workout (through December 31, 2024)

Remember, practice makes permanent. To continue advancing your vocal agility skills, we invite you to repeat this workout often. Every Messiah-gility workout is different, while focusing on the same set of fundamental skills.
