Co-Vo Fundamentals > Low Notes

Low Notes

This 45-minute vocal workout—delivered live, via Zoom—will explore low notes: how they can be produced comfortably, efficiently, and freely. Exercises during this workout will frequently include the pitches from “low” F to middle C (F3–C4 for sopranos and altos), or the octave below (F2–C3 for tenors and basses). Sopranos and tenors are welcome to attend! The ”low” notes you focus on will be appropriate to your voice category.

Vocal exercises will answer the questions:

  • What happens to the vocal folds as we sing lower pitches?

  • What are the top three things that block power and resonance in the low range?

  • How should female singers exercise their chest voice? (Or should they?)

  • What determines how low I can sing?

Remember, practice makes permanent. To solidify your ease and coordination when singing low notes, we invite you to repeat this workout often. Every Low Notes workout is different, while focusing on the same set of fundamental skills.
