Smoothing the Lower “Break”
This 45-minute vocal workout—delivered live, via Zoom—will guide sopranos and altos in exercises designed to strengthen and coordinate the lower passaggio. Depending on the singer’s voice category, this pitch area resides somewhere between C4-G4 (middle C to the G above), where many singers experience a break, and/or a decrease in power, focus, resonance, and/or comfort.
Vocal exercises will address:
How body connection and facial posture facilitate smooth register transitions
The vowels (and vowel modifications) that make these pitches more resonant vs. more difficult
How to appropriately exercise the chest voice
How vocal fatigue can affect vocal registration in this pitch area, and what to do about it
Remember, practice makes permanent. To smooth your lower break, we invite you to repeat this workout often. Every Lower Break workout is different, while focusing on the same set of fundamental skills.
