High Notes
Do you struggle to avoid tension as you sing high notes? Do you feel tightness in your neck, jaw, tongue, throat, or torso?
This 45-minute vocal workout—delivered live, via Zoom—will explore how high notes can be produced comfortably, efficiently, and freely. Exercises during this workout will frequently include the pitches E5-C6 (for sopranos/altos) or E4-C5 (for tenors/basses)—i.e., from the soprano/tenor passaggio to the “High C”. Singers of lower voice categories are also invited to join, although they will be encouraged to perform more modifications of the highest patterns.
Vocal exercises will focus on:
Using movement, monitoring, and massage tools to prevent and release tension while singing high notes
Lower body support and breath pressure
Dropping “vocal weight” in the passaggio—what that actually means
Optimal behavior of the resonator during high notes (e.g., facial position, jaw, tongue, palate)
Remember, practice makes permanent. To solidify your ease and coordination when singing high notes, we invite you to repeat this workout often. Every High Notes workout is different, while focusing on the same set of fundamental skills.
